- The key may be in the fact it is an external modem. A few months back I got
- a new Sportster 28.8 and had similar problems. I had just installed a new
- controller card with 65550 uarts so I could use this new fast modem. I had
- all sorts of quirkiness - freezes during large downloads, interrupts in
- browsing and problems with even terminal connections. It turns out I didn't
- set the port speed above the old 9600 setting! Windows 95 indicated it
- recognized and was using the new uarts and I or no one I called for help
- thought of the port speed. Try setting it to 115200 bps using hardware flow
- control or none. Also I had trouble with the buffers, but you said you
- turned them off. This helped me. The fact you say you can connect at a
- lower speed seems to indicate this might be it. I sure hope so, it took me
- weeks to figure out. Oh, I didn't remember to ask, but you do have 65550
- uarts don't you? If not the old 8250's won't work well (at all) above 9600!

- Yes this was my problem!

- Hey! I've got a friend on AOL and he has a computer repair business!

- Hope this does help! I could have pulled my hair out.
